ALL ABOUT HAPPY SKI – GOOD RULES AND LOTS OF FUN!

ready for the slope

Always provide pupils with a mask and/or goggles and sunscreen.
Do not allow children to refuse the use of cream and glasses.
Dress them with layered clothing, suitable for the weather conditions.
Breakfast is essential to give children the right energy for the day.
Tell the teacher if the child did not have any breakfast.

cold under control

In case of extremely cold temperatures, time-breaks in warm environments must be scheduled to avoid frostbite on the hands and feet of young students.
If hands or feet are too cold, massage them at length in a warm environment.
Never allow frostbitten body parts too close to heat sources.
Even the classic hot drink can help relieve severe cold.

everyone has his rhythm

Young pupils have a personal resistance to fatigue.
Every child, depending on age, has his/her own rhythm and threshold of fatigue.
The risk of a psychic and/or physical collapse can arise if this threshold is exceeded.
During a pupil’s first steps on the snow, and especially during the first ski lessons, parents must stay at a distance from the teacher, but must be quickly available in case of a sudden need for cuddles.

everything in its time

Each student has different timescales and ways of learning.
Two children of the same age, e.g. 3 years, both beginners, can have completely different motor learning after a 1-hour lesson: for example, the first child could be able to snowplough, the second one could fail to keep his/her balance while standing still.
This is not a problem of the teacher or of the child, don’t worry: both children will reach the same level.

one step at a time

The technical capability (e.g. snowplow) acquired on the learning slope (green) cannot be immediately transferred to intermediate or expert slopes.
The emotional impact can heavily affect pursuing the sport if the student is led to a technical situation which is too complicated or difficult.

let’s review the lesson

Often the rapid body growth of the children is uneven and results in imbalance and technical lapses.
The child who comes back to skiing after 1 year, or even after just a few months (obviously after growing), may need a new period of adjustment to the new body structure, possibly translated into some technical revisions.
